Walking with a Purpose

Students and community members gathered on the Burran Bell Tower Quad wearing their best high heels during the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event to bring awareness to how widespread domestic violence is in our community.

Hosted by the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center and Dalton State's chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, a criminal justice student organization, this event serves as a fundraiser for the crisis center.  The center provides support for domestic violence victims in the area by providing shelter, counseling, and other services.

Cpt. Chris Cook with the Dalton Police Department educated participants on the dangers of domestic violence and the purpose of this event. One in four women will be victims of violence at the hands of an intimate partner.

Many participants dressed in purple skirts, scarves, dresses, and heels, while carrying signs with messages against harming partners. Purple is the color for domestic violence awareness.

Some of the men participated in a beauty contest.

Remember: Oct. 25 is Wear Purple Day!
